Like everything in life, it catches up to you~

For those of you who think that you can get away without having a birthday celebration because you say your birthday is on February 29th, THINK AGAIN!

My Johnny, doesn’t like birthdays, presents or any kind of attention. For years, when someone would ask him when his birthday is, he would say February 29th. His birthday is in November, November 3, 1958. His grandpa always use to call him the 1958 model.

Well this year, there is a February 29th, so I thought I would celebrate his birthday!!! I bought him a leap year birthday card, (Hallmark has any kind of card you can think of) I stopped off at Jewel on the way home from work Monday and picked up a piece of his favorite pie, coconut cream pie. I love that you don’t have to buy a whole pie or cake, you can buy half, or a piece, which worked out perfect for me!!!

When Johnny walked in the door, I lit the candle I put on his pie and I said (or should I say sang) “a one and a two and a three, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Johnny, Happy Birthday to you”

Hahaha, the look of surprise on his face was priceless!

I was more excited than he was about this, I love birthdays! I couldn’t wait for him to blow out his candle and make his wish, so I said “Make a wish Johnny, Make a wish and blow out your candle,” and he said, “I wish you would behave yourself”

  1. I too love birthdays! I could feel your excitement and enthusiasm bursting off the page in details of your story – the slice of coconut cream and the leap year birthday card, even the 1958 model.

Little ways to show you love someone – by picking up on obscure references or repeated mutterings and turning it into something to laugh at and enjoy. Love it!
